Should you use heavy weight OR strict exercise form?
Well first off what is considered heavy or light is all relative to the individual and it will change as your body changes. A heavy weight for you now will probably NOT be a heavy weight for you in 6-12 months time.
How about using BOTH strict form AND heavy weights!
Here's how to do that...
Start off with a weight that you can handle with proper exercise form, it's ok if you start conservative and don't push your strength to the absolute limit. Then all you have to do is focus on using "Progressive Overload" in your workouts.
Progressive Overload means gradually increasing your workload slowly over time. It could be as simple as adding an extra 5 pounds to the barbell or getting another rep per set, while still striving to maintain perfect exercise form.
You'll be amazed at how easily you can make small jumps in weight and still keep good form if you just take it slowly. One of the biggest problems people run into with their workouts is trying to do too much, too soon.
Often times this comes from trying to keep up with your buddies or the other guys at the gym. But instead of focusing on what others are doing, just focus on yourself and your own improvements. Every time you can make a small 5 pound jump in weight or get an extra rep on a set that's a little victory and a step closer to a bigger, stronger, and more muscular physique.
