Government today announced major reforms to unlock the potential through consolidation. Addressing a press conference, Finance MInister Nirmala Sitharman announced measures to support economy. Govt also announced the merger of Punjab National Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank. The Consolidated PNB+OBC+United Bank will be 2nd largest PSB with ₹18 lakh crore business and 2nd largest branch network in India. Besides, govt also announced the merger of Indian Bank with Allahabad Bank becoming the 7th largest PSB. The Finance minister said that Loan recovery has reached record level of Rs 1.21 lakh crore. Sitharman said that , now there will be only 12 state-run banks post consolidation.
